Three Wheeled Buggies
If you're looking for a buggy run with or just a nifty stroller to tackle neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies are great for mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver, even in tight spots.
If you're looking for a smooth ride with your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels that can swivel. However, they are susceptible to punctures, so be prepared with a repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, the symbol of the noughties that had more money than common sense, are in steep decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, and are more flexible and simple to drive and look elegant.
The bigger the wheels are the better your buggy will cope with bumpy surfaces and uneven pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with an infant and a 3-year-old child and found it very durable. It was able to handle cobbles, grass, and rough pavements, as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She said "it feels sturdy to push and very solid when you're on rough terrain. The tyres, which are inflated and require to be pumped up regularly they have suspension built-in. This was extremely comfortable for my kids.
The shape and size of the seat is another thing to consider. The seat should be large enough to allow your child to feel at ease and to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies will have a full lie-flat option while others will only allow a parent facing one.
The Roma Atlas is a great alternative for off-road or wet walks. This buggy is suitable for a single child starting from birth and can be adjusted to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for babies and toddlers from age 4 and includes a bumper bar, raincover, improved 5-point harness, and a large padded seat unit. The storage options are good too, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets inside the hood and an easy-to-access pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Wheels with a larger diameter
Larger wheels mean that your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. In addition, they help you maneuver the buggy through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have rotating front wheels that aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be driven. This can also help in the event that you hit the roots of a tree or stray curb, since the front wheel will lift up slightly to prevent you from hitting it.
A lot of 3 wheeled pushchairs come with air-filled tyres which allow them to navigate a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures and you'll need to have an repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.
Some of our favourite 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. According to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that according to her "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles", and can easily move up and down kerbs. They also have a suspension system that, in her words "smoothes out bumps with great efficiency".
Buggies with bigger wheels can be quite large, and can be difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is a problem when you're using it for a jogger or you need to maneuver through doorways that are narrow when you're out and out and about. The majority of models come with small folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.
Easy to Manoeuvre
A three-wheeled buggy is more comfortable to drive with a child. The way they are built means that the front wheels turn at a quick pace and are incredibly easy to maneuver and are ideal for difficult terrain like cobbles, parks and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the 3-wheeler with her toddler. she reported: "The Terrain is a delight to navigate on uneven terrain. The swivel wheel front was especially helpful." I was also impressed with the way it handled kerbs, especially when using the hand-operated brake. It was extremely stable when going downhill or on a rough terrain."
The only drawback of this amazing maneuverability is that the 3 wheel buggy 's larger wheels do sometimes mean that it can struggle in tight spaces - something to consider if you live in a city region. If this is a concern then a 4-wheel buggy may be a better choice for you.
Bumper bar
Bumper bars will protect your child from scrapes and bumps when out and out and about. They are easy and quick to put up and help your child feel secure and safe whilst out on the town or taking on tough terrain.
It is designed to complement the sleek lines of the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar is an upholstered and soft surface that offers an ideal place for your child to hold to during walks. The durable construction and sturdy design ensure that your child can take a stroll around town without fearing of falling out of the buggy or leaning too far forward.
The fabric sling seat sits comfortably inside the frame rather than over it as modular seats. It provides the lower centre of gravity at the right height for your baby and also providing great weight distribution for a simple kerb pop (it requires less effort to push the buggy up and over a curb than you think). MFM reviewer Kath discovered that it was able to cope well with grass and cobbles and it's a good option for jogging thanks to its lockable swivel wheel on the front and air-filled tyres.
With a stylish and sophisticated appearance, this bumper bar is sure to draw attention wherever you go. Available in a range of colours and finishes and designs, it can be tailored to suit your personal style. It features a simple, quick-release mechanism that makes it easy to install and remove the bumper bar whenever needed. The bumper bar is easy to clean as it is constructed of durable materials. This makes it a great choice for families who want a safe and stylish accessory for their stroller.
Comfort
A 3-wheel buggy is the best off-road vehicle for maneuverability and performance. This type of buggy is simple to steer and turn at a moment's notice due to its perfect geometry engineering, as well as weight distribution.
With a fabric sling seat placed snugly within the frame rather than over it like modular seats, the Sport's clever design permits it to have a lower center of gravity that is the perfect height for your child, providing you with a smoother push, a lighter curb pop (you don't require the same amount of weight or effort to pop the hood of your buggy up and over the curb) and better balance and stability. And with the huge rear wheels measuring 16 inches, lockable swivel front wheel and air filled tyres that require only occasional pumping to give you smooth, bump-free rides over rough terrain and a smoother, more comfortable jog.

As the only pushchair in our collection to come with a seat for parents that can also take a carrycot or car seat, you can future proof your family and enjoy every adventure from day dot and into the future and all within the footprint of a single buggy!
Kath who was our MFM reviewer, also loved the spaciousness of the buggy. There's a large, easily accessible basket that's quite spacious for a buggy this small as well as an easy-to-use pouch that zips up on the rear of the seat and two smaller mesh pockets under the hood to keep your phone and keys.
